Field Trips

On the Saturday afternoon three separate field trips will be available for you to select from.

Each field trip will provide a unique experience that focuses on a distinct genre of photography and which centres around a unique and iconic location around the Christchurch area.

Each field trip will be supported by a mentor/coach who has expertise in that specific genre of photography. Their role will be to provide an overview of the location, points of interest and more detailed coaching for those that want that. They will be available as a resource for you throughout the field trip.

The genres will be:

  1. Portraiture – Held within a colonial/early European setting complete with working township, villagers in costume and historic machinery. You will have no problem becoming absorbed and lost in time when you step back 125 years. Guy Pask will be the mentor for this trip.
  2. Photojournalism – An inner city location – complete with the hussle and bustle of arts and crafts stalls, café’s and restaurants, produce markets, and the hallowed halls of once academic buildings. All together such a remarkable location for PJ opportunities. The mentor will be Dave Wethey.
  3. Landscape within the context of historical and pastural buildings/machinery This truly remarkable historic location provides an array of historic gardens, buildings, machinery, implements and museum pieces all set within some of the most beautiful countryside Canterbury has to offer. The mentor for this trip will be John Doogan.
