Ray Barlin Youth Award - 2007

The winner of the Ray Barlin Youth Award is 23 year old Monica Winder of Wellington. The judges' comments were that, while the figures are involved in different activities unseen by each other and separated by a dividing wall, their interaction with the photographer has resulted in a "moment in time" image which implies a strong but undefined link between the people portrayed.

Samantha Robinson aged 17 of Papanui, Christchurch, took second prize. Lydia Nimmo of Gremouth, aged 19, received third prize.

Magrita Strulick of Auckland, Katie Blackstock of New Plymouth, Hiram Patel of Christchurch and Kathryn Walters of Wellington, gained Highly Commended certificates.

There were 64 prints received from 24 entrants, twice the number received last year. A broad range of abilities was demonstrated. The judges, Barry Doig FPSNZ and Don Pittam FPSNZ ANPSNZ, were well pleased with the overall standard of the photographs submitted.
