National Exhibition – Awards

The following trophies may be awarded. Only one award will be made to any one print or slide.

Prints only

The Maadi Cup and gold medal
for the champion monochrome print.
The George Chance Trophy and gold medal
for the champion colour print.
The H.S. James Landscape Award and medal
for the best landscape print.
The Shirley Peverill Trophy and gold medal
for the best print which illustrates photojournalism.
The Ronald D Woolf Youth Award and silver medal
for the best print entered by a photographer who is under the age of 25 years at 1st January of the year of the Exhibition. Proof of the entrant's age will be required. The Award may be made to an entrant once only and includes a silver medal and subsidy for Convention attendance. In addition PSNZ provides complimentary membership to the Society for the remainder of the financial year, plus the following 12 months.

Slides only

The Robinson Cup and gold medal
for the champion slide.
The Brian Brake Memorial Award (sponsored by Kodak) and gold medal
for the best slide which illustrates photojournalism.
The Eric Young Trophy and a PSNZ Silver Medal
for the best Landscape slide.

Prints and Slides

The Richard Ratcliff Marine Award, a Plaque and PSNZ silver medal
for the best marine print or slide. This award shall alternate annually between the print and slide sections being for prints in one year (even years) and for slides in the succeeding year (odd numbered years).
The William C. Davies Memorial Trophy and a gold medal
for the print, and the Geoff Moon Trophy and a gold medal for the slide, which best illustrates New Zealand Natural History. The decisions shall be based on the scientific interest and value of the entries as well as the photographic skill displayed.

Other

The Selectors may make the following awards in each section

  • Silver medals – maximum of two
  • Bronze medals – maximum of three
  • Honours ribbons – maximum of five

The overriding requirement being that the total of the above awards and trophies is not more than ten per cent (10%) of the number accepted in each section, and not less than five percent (5%).

An acceptance card shall be issued for each print and slide acceptance.
